Open-Xchange Giving
Striving for a World with Equal Access to Opportunities
We believe in long-term partnerships when it comes to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and corporate giving. With Groundbreaker, we have found a partner that shares this vision and helps us support local communities in need.
We provide financial support to the Groundbreaker Talents scholarship program and actively engage with it. Several OX employees share their expertise as mentors, directly helping women in Uganda to develop their programming skills.
What is it?
Since 2019, the non-profit organization Groundbreaker has linked donors with local initiatives in over 40 countries in the Global South. Through its innovative 'Foundation-as-a-Service' concept, they make it easy for individuals and companies to support a good cause.
With a focus on strategic corporate engagement, the team helps companies develop long-term strategies aligned with their values. Groundbreaker also assists in project selection with due diligence reports, offers fundraising support, project management, and continuous monitoring to ensure sustainability.
Giving Time Makes it Personal
Investing time, expertise, and people, in addition to financial support, makes this much more tangible for us. The direct involvement of members of the Open-Xchange team fosters a genuine interest in the well-being of the community and creates an understanding of the impact it has amongst our colleagues. Here's what they say about their engagement with Groundbreaker:
I think this is a good opportunity for us as a company, but also for the mentees. The mentoring takes around one hour per week. We discuss technology in general and what to learn next, in Slack. We talk about what is important in IT, what has changed in IT in the last few years, and how it has impacted living in Germany. So, it's very broad, not delving into the details of specific problems yet. It seems the mentees are already gaining good knowledge in their school.

My first impression has been very positive, and our collaboration is off to a great start. Right from the start, it wasn't challenging. My mentee is open to asking questions and sharing her learning goals. We've set up a weekly Zoom meeting to discuss her interests. We usually decide on the topic for the next week during our calls, and she sends me questions so I can prepare. During our sessions, she seems genuinely interested in our conversation and takes notes on important new things. Overall, it's been an informative and enjoyable experience so far. 😊
